St. Silverius

St. Silverius

pope and martyr · † 537
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake.
— Matt 5:10

A pope whom Empress Theodora tried to force into concessions on the teaching of the faith. When he refused, he was falsely accused and exiled to a barren island, where he died of hunger. Truth is not betrayed, even at the cost of life.
