St. Stephen Harding

St. Stephen Harding

abbot, co-founder of the Cistercians · c. 1060 – 1134
Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
— John 12:24

An English monk who with friends sought a simpler and stricter life at Cîteaux. The monastery nearly died out – until St. Bernard entered it with thirty companions. Do not give up when your work seems to bear no fruit.
