St. Cuthbert

bishop and hermit · c. 634 – 687
Keep peace and divine charity among yourselves.
— Last words, according to Bede

A shepherd from Northumbria who became a monk at Lindisfarne. He loved solitude on his island; legend says otters warmed his feet after he prayed in the sea. Despite his longing for solitude he accepted the office of bishop. Love can leave its own comfort behind.
