St. Onuphrius

hermit · 4th–5th century
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
— Ps 42:3

An Egyptian hermit who lived alone in the desert for sixty years, feeding on dates. The monk Paphnutius found him just before his death and recorded his story. Silence and solitude can be places of great closeness to God.
