St. Robert of Newminster

abbot, Cistercian · c. 1100 – 1159
Blessed are the poor in spirit.
— Matt 5:3

A Yorkshire parish priest who joined the monks founding Fountains Abbey and later led the new monastery of Newminster. He lived strictly but was unusually gentle to others. Hard on oneself, mild to others – that is the way of the saints.
