St. Ethelbert of Kent

king · c. 550 – 616
Your words and promises are fair; I will force no one, but I give you freedom to preach.
— According to Bede the Venerable

An English king who received the missionaries of St. Augustine; though at first he listened cautiously, he was baptised. He forced no one to believe but made room for the faith. Freedom and love are a better way than pressure.
