St. Brigid of Ireland

St. Brigid of Ireland

abbess, patroness of Ireland · c. 451 – 525
I would like a great lake of ale for the King of kings, and the whole of heaven drinking it for ever.
— Poem attributed to St. Brigid

The daughter of a slave woman, she gave everything away to the poor until her father lost patience. At Kildare she founded the first women's monastery in Ireland. Her generosity was so great that legends are still told about it. A generous heart never grows poor.
