January 21
On this day the Catholic Church remembers
St. Agnes of Rome

St. Agnes of Rome

virgin and martyr · c. 291 – 304
I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine.
— Song 6:3

She was only twelve or thirteen when she refused marriage to a powerful man because she had consecrated herself to Christ. She did not fear even death. St. Ambrose wrote that she was too young for punishment, yet mature enough for victory. Courage has no age.
