On this day the Catholic Church remembers
St. Hilary of Poitiers

St. Hilary of Poitiers

bishop and Doctor of the Church · c. 315 – 367
I know, almighty God and Father, that the chief duty of my life is that every word and thought of mine should speak of you.
— On the Trinity I, 37

A pagan who found God while reading Scripture. As bishop he courageously defended faith in Christ's divinity and was sent into exile for it. Even there he wrote and strengthened the faithful. Truth is worth defending even at the cost of comfort.
