Bishop of Philadelphia · 1811 – 1860
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
— Matt 28:19

Born in Prachatice in Bohemia, he went to America to become a priest when he could not be ordained at home. He walked from parish to parish and spoke up to twelve languages so as to understand everyone. When one door closes, God opens another.
